From one big city to another, Chicago indie-rock band, Dehd, hit the stage at Brooklyn Steel in Brooklyn, New York. The three musicians, which consist of a bassist, a guitarist, and drummist, shared their music to a fun crowd, full of love and good vibes. The beautiful venue opened their doors, people got comfortable and grabbed a drink, and the room was fuelling for the epic night.
The vocals from co-lead singers, Emily Kempf (bassist) and Jason Balla (guitarist), along with the incredible instrumentals filled every corner of the 1,800-capacity venue. The room was packed with fans throwing their arms in the air, singing along, and sharing some sick dance moves. Drummer of the trio, Eric McGrady, shared his skills not only on the drums, but on the keys, as well. The mixture of all these talents, playing in perfect unison, mashed into perfect sound.
Despite the energy that played from the instruments, the band was very interactive. The artists were jumping, spinning, and simply joining in on the crowd’s enjoyment. Performing their hit songs such as Bad Love, Loner, and Lucky, their genuine sound allowed such fluent movement in their performance, and it’s always great to see a musician actually feel and react to their own music. Loud cheers from the crowd responded to every song they performed, and it’s no question why this response was so vivid; the lyricism from every track they played was so real and relatable. This connection with them and their fans was truly something magical to see and hear.
As a person who likes to listen to and find new artists, I really went in with no knowledge about the band. As a result, I ended up adding their songs that really hit home on my playlist. This group has great potential, talent, and they simply perform with love. That energetic connection that I felt throughout the night is indescribable; they’re going to go to big and bright places. Dehd is finishing up their tour this month, but I highly recommend following their journey into domination in the indie-rock music world.
