They deserve to feel free, like we feel free,” says Jason Aalon Butler of support band The Fever 333, to cries and cheers of support, setting the tone for the night before the UK lefties’ favourite electronic metal popcore act.

And tonight, everyone has a lot to shout about.

System…

It’s your future.”

…Meltdown

There are no speeches, no tension-building – everyone knows why we are here. Enter Shikari plays track after track, reeling off Live Outside, Anaesthetist and Torn Apart. The band leans into its diverse range of sounds and styles, throwing an angry song at the crowd first, then resolving the energy with their trademark euphoric sound and bringing everyone back down to smiles and claps on the back, and yells of “Everyone alright?

I am grateful to be alive and on this stage.”

As the energy winds down, a shoe is held up in the air, its owner nowhere to be seen. Sweaty t-shirts are ripped off, and I even spot a fan dressed, in a full suit, as the broadcaster from the band’s satirical Arguing With Thermometers music video. The laser-lights dwindle and shift to a moody blue hue as the backdrop switches not to killer robots or strings of binary code but a nostalgic New York skyline. A spotlight shines on the peak of one of the towers that make up the production’s huge screens, and Rou is sat, his legs dangling over the edge, with a guitar.

Rou, being known for taking little adventures during live sets, later appears on the balcony of Victoria Warehouse, before crowd surfing from the back of the huge warehouse’s main room to the stage.

We are treated to Enter Shikari (song), Mothership and Solidarity in a gauntlet of old fan favourites. The crowd yells every small line injection back, chanting “Rory C,” and “F*ck the Tories,” jumping at any opportunity to fill space.

Among the old tracks are the singles from the band’s latest album, A Kiss For The Whole World, the title track of which ends the show. But not before Sorry, You’re Not A Winner – switching to Pendulum’s remix version halfway through – sent every long-time fan feral, myself included.

This might be my favourite show I have ever been to. My voice is still recovering.
