Sea Girls lit up London’s Brixton Academy with an electric set that had the crowd buzzing from start to finish. Ever since their debut album ‘Open Up Your Head’ was released in 2020, indie-rock band Sea Girls have been on a rise to the top and have easily solidified themselves as one of the best indie groups to come out of the UK in the past decade. Consisting of Henry Camamile, Rory Young, Andrew Dawson, and Oli Khan, Sea Girls are touring their recently released stunning third album ‘Midnight Butterflies’.
Amongst the crowd, there was an undeniable buzz as the excitement amongst the fans brewed in anticipation of Sea Girls arrival on stage. There was no need for introductions as the boys promptly burst onto the stage, opening with title track ‘Midnight Butterflies’. Right on cue as fans sang along a flutter of butterfly-shaped confetti burst from the canons either side of the stage, creating a magical atmosphere as fans looked up in awe. ‘First on My List’ and ‘Paracetamol Blues’ set the tempo for the night blending a mix of old and new tracks encouraging the crowd to get moving as the fans bopped and sang along to every word.
A standout moment of the night was the stripped back version of ‘Hometown’ which saw Oli switch to the keys as Henry brought the sweet nostalgia with each and every word, creating an intimate moment fans will remember for a long time. ’After Hours’ and ‘Horror Movies’ were particularly welcomed additions to the Sea Girls setlist from the new album with their anthemic hooks and choruses. However, ‘Sick’ and ‘Damage Done’ drew the effervescent energy out of the crowd clearly stating themselves as classic fan favourites. Sea Girls’ cover of ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ was very much welcomed by the fans in the encore as everyone danced and sang along. It was clear on everyones faces that Sea Girls headlining Brixton Academy was something special, the penultimate show of an exciting tour celebrating the greatness of their rewoven sound and highlights from over the years.
