The Driver Era brought their X Girlfriend Tour to the UK, with one stop being Manchester’s O2
Apollo. With such a dedicated fan base and support from bands Your Favourite Colour and
almost monday, it was no surprise that the queue wrapped itself around the venue, as the
excitement was evident. From colourful cowboy hats, and t-shirts with the band’s faces printed
on, to handmade banners. The energy grew as the night went on, which was a good sign for
both the bands set to perform that night and the fans.
It is quite telling from the support bands that The Driver Era chose for this tour, as both bands
brought a similar energy to the stage. Crowd interaction was a big part of their sets, as they
were grateful to The Driver Era for bringing them out on the road. Both bands delivered sets to
be proud of, a night full of pop energy and excitement.
Soon it was time for The Driver Era to make their way to the stage. As the lights went down, the
entire band made their way to the stage. Silhouettes emerged and the stage was still very dark.
Kicking the night off with an unreleased track, “Touch”, the crowd screamed as spotlights shone
on the faces of Rocky and Ross Lynch. Sporting a black suit and tie, Ross Lynch meant
business. A setlist full of catchy songs which had their fans singing along to every word included
“Get Off My Phone”, Nobody Knows” and “Preacher Man”. The energy in the room stayed
consistent throughout the night, especially with the band giving such a high-energy
performance. They were in their element up on that stage and that’s all any fan of a band asks
for.
The Driver Era bridged the gap between bands and fans which didn't go unnoticed. The
atmosphere was electric till the very last song. Following a 20-track setlist, the night was
brought to a close with an encore of “On My Own” and “A Kiss”- the perfect way to end this
memorable experience for their fans and The Driver Era’s time in Manchester once again.
