The Vaccines turn a weeknight into a weekend at Manchester Academy

The Vaccines put on a euphoric performance at Manchester Academy on Tuesday night as 1500 fans crammed into the room. Lead singer Justin Young exuded boundless energy and enthusiasm as to be expected from an artist well-versed in live performances. It was a grand opening as the first guitar notes of ‘Love to Walk Away’ kicked in. Justin’s interactions with the crowd felt intimate and made the atmosphere even more-so electric making a Tuesday night feel almost like a Saturday.

The set-list was full of fan-favourites like ‘Post Break-Up Sex’, ‘Wetsuit’, and ‘Handsome’, in which The Vaccines' passion for their craft was evident in their performance of the songs, with every catchy-chorus and guitar chord strummed.

The collective sense of joy in the room was contagious as fans climbed atop each other’s shoulders as if it was a festival set in the middle of Summer, everyone in the room seeming carefree and excited.

The clever song writing and euphoric guitars make you feel nostalgic over loves lost and found, something The Vaccines are rather good at, highlighted by the cinematic feel to the stage with the red curtain backdrop. The songs from latest release Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations were as well-received as the earlier records, highlighting the evidence that The Vaccines are timeless and clearly not going anywhere soon.

As the night drew to a close with anthems like ‘Heartbreak Kid’, ‘All in White’ and ‘All My Friends Are Falling in Love’, The Vaccines left their mark once again on Manchester and it was clear that not only did the crowd not want the show to end, but neither did the band.
